Joan Do- Truong: Builds a Safe Place for Young Asian American Women

To empower is to give someone confidence and the power to strengthen the connection of everyone. Not all superheroes wear capes and have super powers, some of them are just normal people who strive to make a difference, doing good deeds and make the world a better place for all and sundry.

Do you ever wonder what it feels like to accomplish something you’ve set for yourself? The sense of fulfillment and happiness with the things you do? Joan Do- Truong’ 23, an educational studies and women and gender studies double major from Boston proves that anything is probable if you have the courage to take the first step toward your goals. She came from a family of strong -willed refugees from the Vietnam war. Through that, her goal of empowering Asian-American women and children creates a safe space for Asian youth with the help of grants and connections. With her goal in mind, she wrote and submitted a proposal to Davis Projects for Peace to build a community for young women, a safe place where they could share their experiences and gain the knowledge to create sustainable improvements in their communities. An opportunity to speak up and take action in building a good community serves as a role model for those seeking peace. She was awarded a $10,000 grant to accomplish and bring her vision to life in her home town during the summer of 2022. Her learnings helped her realize how much she enjoys working with the youth and the community. It was challenging for her to begin her program, but she eventually realized the value of openness, organization, and accessibility.

Do- Truong exemplifies that with determination and hard work, anything is possible. There are no limits to what a woman can achieve. A woman who inspires and is determined to lift others will always be stronger and grow beautifully.
