California’s Thai town is the very first enclave for Thai citizens outside their home country. This historical Asian community is a resolution plan to save the uncivilized section in Hollywood Boulevard. It is known for its vibrant ambiance because of its location and mix of western and Asian infrastructures. Thai Town was officially established in 1999 with the goal of promoting cultural diversity, tourism and economic development of Los Angeles alongside the culture of Thais. However, the background of the Thai community in America is beyond special and its enclave has been the representative of the brotherhood over the years.
It is not only the Thai-American community who gain benefits in the success of Thai Town. Aside from the preservation of Thai culture and heritage, it is also the center of economic development and model of historical marketing while existing in the middle of an American neighborhood. It is both a cultural and economic hub for many locals regardless of their nationality, making it a perfect place to show great partnership between history and modernization without overshadowing one another.

Located in the busy streets of East Hollywood, Thai town is the home for several Thai restaurants and shops as well as historical American infrastructures. Many will describe it as Los Angeles in Thailand because of the jam packed restaurants and shops embodying Thai culture. Authentic Thai cuisines, expensive and cheap Thai foods, food markets, shops for different goods such as silk clothing stores and even parlor shops are filling the six block area of the Thai enclave.
True to its name, the strong relationship between Bangkok, Thailand and Los Angeles shows that both are worthy to be called as “City of Angels” as they exemplify the perfect image of being united amidst the differences in many ways.
